After graduating from High School, I immediately started my apprenticeship with a family friend who was also a long time journeyman tile setter. Soon after, (1987) I joined the BC Tile Setter’s Union, local #3, where I received my journeyman status. I worked mostly in commercial and high-end residential in the downtown Vancouver and West Vancouver areas all through the 80’s and 90’s. After many years in Vancouver I decided to move to Calgary. Since 2001 I’ve been working for builders, designers, architects and flooring companies all over Calgary and surrounding areas.
I’m what you call an “old school” tile setter. I learned from generations of journeymen, who taught me every aspect of the tile trade. I’m skilled in mud work, waterproofing, granite and marble slab installation, traditional ‘sand & cement’ shower pans, as well as becoming certified in the newer methods of tile installations, including Schluter shower systems and their crack-isolation system, Schluter Ditra.
I pride myself in doing a job with the quality and care that I would want in my own home. I will often spend more time than originally allotted just to make sure it is done to the customer’s, and my own, high expectations, even if it means taking a loss on the job.
I now have the joy of my oldest son working alongside me as a journeyman on many of my jobs. I look forward to serving you and giving you a tile installation that you can brag about to your friends and neighbours, and that will last a lifetime.
